The association ‘Doris’ was founded in October 2011, at the initiative of a group of animal lovers living in Argostoli, with the cooperation of the municipality of Kefalonia.
It was staffed by all of us who love and care for stray animals. Of course, none of this would have been true if the municipality of Kefalonia had not strongly supported our effort by granting us our housing space. At the same time, the undivided contribution of the English community of the island, which has joined forces with us and contributes with its voluntary work and the provision of food, is invaluable.
The purpose of the association is to provide shelter and care for all stray animals that circulate in our city and need food, water and love.
In addition to providing undivided care and love, our association takes care of the health care of strays and promotes a sterilization program in order to limit births and safeguard public health. At the same time, it promotes the social reintegration of animals into foster families and aims to inform and raise public awareness. In addition, our association makes efforts to organize volunteer groups and programs for the care of animals.
The association ‘Doris’ is a non-profit association, approved by decision no. 88/16-6-2011 of the Single-Member Court of First Instance of Kefalonia and registered under number 582/13-10-2011.
The name of our shelter is ‘ARK’ (Animal Rescue Kefalonia).
