The Sanctuary has been operating since 1996 and was founded by John Laden. It has an area of 7 acres where there are a hospital building of 12 rooms and kitchen, operating room, staff residence, hospitality room, cathouse, warehouse and dog shelters from 20 to 300 sq.m. each.
All this without any help from the state. It is the only association with its own privately owned space. It currently houses 320 dogs and 60 cats (adults, puppies, blind, tripods, elderly as well as animals abandoned by relatives of elderly people when they passed away or were confined in nursing homes.)
The Shelter had a contract with the Municipality of Thessaloniki from 2002 to 2010 for sterilization of strays in its area of responsibility.
