In the area of Exochi in Thessaloniki, very close to the Papanikolaou hospital, about 150 mulberries live protected and happy here since 2010. Some small and some large, some healthy and some sick, some beautiful and others ugly. But all wonderful !
It all started when the fear of extermination of the dogs in the area led Eleni to start collecting the dogs that were in danger nearby. Over time the number of dogs increased. From 10 to 20, then 30, then 40 and more than 599 legs (149 four-legged and 1 three-legged trouble) have found love and protection. Eleni’s effort began to be better organized and Stray Planet was created, an initially voluntary group that in September 2015 officially became a Greek association (number 35134-11-12-14 and filled 132724804000).
Stray Planet today has 2 spaces and counts 20 active volunteers who take care of the animals of the shelter on a daily basis and offer their services sacrificing personal time and money to every living soul in need. They intervene in cases of abuse, carry out rescues, transport injured animals to the doctor, neuter strays, feed and create shelters on the street and at the same time try to find a home for those dogs that live alone in dangerous conditions. The expenses are many. Doctors, medicines, food… And the income is minimal, since the only income of Stray Planet comes from friends who love animals and want to do something to help.
