The Animal Welfare Association for the Protection of Stray Animals of the Municipality of Filothei-Psychiko is a civil, non-profit, company (Court of First Instance Number: 10431/2011), consisting only of volunteers. Its operation is based on stable funding from the Municipality of Filothei – Psychiko, donations from animal lovers, as well as income from events it organizes. It was founded in 2011, as a continuation of the Committee for the Protection of Stray Animals, which had started in 1994.
Every year, in cooperation with the veterinarians of the area, we collect, treat, neuter and promote for adoption the stray animals we find within the boundaries of the Municipality. We host them in private shelters and often in our homes, until they are adopted.
Our goal is to find in each animal its own family, so we have chosen, as much as we can, not to follow the method of reintegrating animals into the inhospitable environment of the city.
Finally, we seek to inform and cultivate the consciousness of the responsible pet owner among our fellow citizens, in order to limit the phenomenon of animal abandonment.
