In May 2000 we founded in Pylaia, Thessaloniki the STRAY ANIMAL SHELTER “AGAPI”, with the aim of making the sporadic and isolated efforts we made until then, more organized and effective.
According to the approved statutes of the Association, our goals are the protection, assistance and care of stray animals.
To achieve these goals, we strive to give the animals we care for for adoption, to control births, implement a sterilization program and in cooperation with the authorities to protect animals from abuse, denouncing arbitrary actions and offering legal protection where needed.
Until today, we have struggled, offering our love, our free time, our personal work, money, sacrifices and we have achieved the following:
- We neutered a large number of animals in Thessaloniki and Halkidiki.
- We gave many kittens and dogs for adoption, checking the quality of life offered to them.
- With various events we try to inform people that for birth control sterilization is preferable to fola.
- We organized, with the help of students of the School of Veterinary Medicine, speeches in the schools of the city to inform students, teachers and professors about our obligations towards stray animals.
- We participated in campaigns for the prohibition of the establishment of circuses, due to the abuse suffered by animals in it.
- We take care of the feeding of stray animals on a daily basis in Thessaloniki and Halkidiki.
- We communicate and support people who offer their love to many animals, so that they can continue this effort.
- The clinics of surgery and pathology of the School of Veterinary Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, appreciating our effort for strays, assist us with their scientific support.
