The Animal Welfare Association of Nikaia – Keratsini was founded in 2009 by decision no. 4176/2009 of the Piraeus Court of First Instance. It is a NON-profit association and its action is supported exclusively by volunteers.
The purpose of our Association is the care and generally the care and protection of stray animals, as well as, in cooperation with local Authorities and any Public or Administrative Authority, the resolution of issues relating to stray or kept animals (complaints about animal abuse, passive or active).
The Municipality of Nikaia, observing the work of volunteers and recognizing the needs for its continuation, granted our Association space for the creation of a shelter for stray animals
With volunteer work and financial help from members and friends of the association, we managed to build the first stray animal shelter in Nikaia.
In our shelter we currently host 45 animals, a number that occasionally increases or decreases depending on conditions and circumstances.
The criterion for an animal to enter the shelter is its state of health, its age and the social needs that arise and require its collection by our Association. When their health is restored, they grow up or recover, we go through the process of adoptions. So far we have treated and promoted for adoption 500 stray animals.
